Keith Prowse sponsors Rugby Photographer of the Year 2022

Rugby Photographer of the Year 2022 launches this month, with a new partner in Keith Prowse, the UK’s hospitality industry leader.

The inaugural Rugby Photographer of the Year saw more than 500 photographers from 24 different countries enter their work across six different categories, covering rugby at all levels, from grassroots to the elite, minis and juniors to senior men and women.

Competing for a grand prize of £1,000, together with the prestige of having their work exhibited at the World Rugby Museum, Twickenham, the competition is open to amateur and professional photographers in categories including landscape, portrait, action, portfolio and spirit of rugby. 

“Rugby Photographer of the Year represents the entire breadth of rugby’s landscape,” explains Alex Mead, Editor-in-Chief of the Rugby Journal, organisers of the competition. “Through the entries, we’ve showcased mini rugby, and women’s and men’s rugby everywhere from Russia and Spain to the USA, New Zealand and, of course, the UK. It’s proved to be a genuine celebration of our sport and the quality of the entries has been exceptionally high.

“Now, with Keith Prowse on board as a partner, we’re very excited about being able to celebrate this work with a brand so intrinsically involved in rugby.”

The 2022 competition launches in the Christmas edition of the Rugby Journal, which is out the week commencing 13th December, and the entry portal is open on the same day via therugbyjournal.com. 

The format will remain the same, with the following Rugby Photographer of the Year categories: Action, Spirit of Rugby, Portfolio, Portrait, Landscape and Young.

An overall Grand Prix winner will receive the first prize and all shortlisted works will appear in the exhibition at the World Rugby Museum in 2022. “We’re delighted to be hosting this exhibition again and are looking forward to receiving more fantastic images from all over the world,” said Phil McGowan, museum curator, World Rugby Museum.

A panel of expert judges from the worlds of rugby and photography will be announced in the coming months.
